I love it when a plan comes together!

One of my favorite moments during the Design Phase is when a client gets to see the first 3D renderings of the space for the first time! Up until now, they have met with you, learned your story, and nervously entered into the Design Phase hoping that everything they have seen and heard is true. Fast forward a couple of weeks and the efforts of the designer are revealed for the first time.

Those within the industry know that this isn’t that big of a deal. They’ve created a thousand of these documents. And it really is just the starting point, revisions are coming. Most of the material choices are just place holders.

But to the client, it’s the first time they really get to see it as more than an idea. It’s when they start trusting the process, the designer, me, as the builder. I can literally see the apprehension fade away to be replaced with excitement, all in one breath.

I can relate. I remember getting together with a web designer for the first time in a coffee shop in 2003 to create a website for my new business. They had a couple of templates that they just dropped your name into to give you a sense of what it might look like. When my business name magically appeared at the top of what I thought was a rather mundane HTML template I almost cried.

I just sat there staring at it for what seemed like forever, grinning ear to ear like a full blown idiot! There was something magical about seeing something, that previously was only in my mind, out in the real world for all to see.

I never get tired of seeing their reactions or hearing about it from the designer if I can’t be there.
